Mike Guerrero, Senior Pastor

My name is Mike Guerrero and I’m the pastor of Shoreline Covenant Church.  Let me tell you something about myself.

I grew up in Southern California on a farm, but not the usual kind of farm. My father was a flower farmer. I have vivid memories of acres of multicolor crops as well as tedious hours of weeding and irrigating.

I was raised in the rich heritage of the Roman Catholic Church. My family, particularly my mother, regularly went to Confession and attended Mass. I had meaningful experiences of confessing my sins and finding assurance of forgiveness. However, in my senior year of high school, I developed a friendship with some kids who were part of a little community church in our area. I was impressed with the way they spoke of their everyday faith in Jesus. Eventually they explained to me how Jesus Christ had died for their sins and how they sought to follow him as their Lord. What they shared with me led me to a new understanding of, and deeper appreciation for, Jesus Christ and led me to express and experience my trust in Him as I never had before.

Four years later in 1966 (a very long time ago) I graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles. While in college I gave in to the desire God had put in heart and decided my life’s calling was to become a pastor. However, as I finished college I realized I didn’t know much about people or life so I enlisted in the Army and spent three years at various posts in the United States.

When my Army enlistment was over I enrolled in Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. I spent three years there and also worked as youth pastor at a local church. I did my last year of graduate work at Bethel Seminary, a Baptist school in St. Paul, Minnesota because I thought I was going to be serving a Baptist church.

But things didn’t work out as I’d planned and God led me to an Evangelical Covenant Church in Los Angeles where I served for almost 3 years as assistant pastor. It was there that I met and married my wife Judi.

We came to Shoreline Covenant Church (it was North Seattle Covenant Church back then) in 1977. Our time with the people who are Shoreline Covenant Church has been a blessing to us and, hopefully, to them as well.

Andrew Thwing, Sr. High Ministry

I’m the Minister to High School Students, and I previously worked as a volunteer with this high school ministry since 1999.  I also work part-time in the paint department at the Home Depot in Seattle.

I became a Christian when I was young, as a result of my parents and friends at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle.  I started volunteering with high school students at Shoreline Covenant when Matt Montzingo invited me to help him with music and some events.  I decided to go to church here because I felt so welcomed here and I liked that it was so much smaller than the church I came from!

Christy and I got married in February of 2006, and immediately went to live in Tijuana for 9 months, where we lived in an orphanage and hosted American teams that came to build houses.

Kate Coffee & Sue Kerrigan, Women's Ministries

My name is Sue Kerrigan and together with Kate Coffee serve as Co-Director of Women's Ministries here at Shoreline Covenant Church. Here's how I got here:
Although I grew up in the church, I was 15 years old before I placed my trust in Jesus Christ. I began serving in the church in various capacities as I pursued an education (BA in English, University of Oregon), worked at various jobs (technical writer, child care center director), got married to Dave and raised 4 children, Janet, Davey, Christian and Kathleen. I began attending Shoreline Covenant with my family in 1993 when my children were young and continued to serve the Lord through this fellowship. I volunteered in Women's Ministries Spiritual Growth Ministry and Outreach Ministry. Kate and I worked together a few years ago as co-leaders of Women's Ministries. I took a break for a few years as I returned to school (AA in Nursing, Everett Community College) and now am an RN in dialysis nursing at Puget Sound Kidney Center. Last fall I accepted the call to serve again in Women's Ministries.

Hi! I'm Kate Coffee. My journey with Christ began as I was raised in the Presbyterian church. I asked Jesus into my heart when I was eleven at church camp. I've been at SCC for nineteen years and have been blessed to be involved in a variety of ministries- from working with children, to music as a worship leader and singing with “Voices of Praise” as well as to serving the women of our church family. As a co-director with Sue we keep as our goal the focus on how God would have us minister to women. I am frequently surprised at the ways God uses me and look forward to the coming year as Sue and I work, side by side with our team ministering to the women of Shoreline Covenant.
I also work as a pediatric rheumatology R.N. At Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center. The areas I enjoy most in my personal life are gardening, reading, having friends over, spending time with family, and seeing what's around the next curve in the road!

We are continually amazed at the caliber of women the Lord has given us to work with. It is a joy to work alongside so many caring and talented women who are dedicated to serving Jesus Christ.

Jana Samuelson, Children's Ministry Coordinator

I am happy to be a part of Children’s Ministry here at Shoreline Covenant Church!

I come to Shoreline Covenant with many years of Early Childhood Education experience.  I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Human Development and have worked in many childcare areas.  I have interned within the national Head Start program, I was a Nanny, and have worked in various preschool programs.  All of these opportunities have given me a passion for working with children and families.

I have lived in Washington all of my life, mainly in the Olympia area.  I met my husband, John, in high school and we were married in 1996.  In 2003, after having our first son, my husband was relocated to a company in Mountlake Terrace and we left all of our family to move to the Seattle area.  We found Shoreline Covenant to be our new home.  Since we have lived here we have added one more son to our family and many new friends.   We believe that SCC is a great place to raise our boys and serve the Lord!

Vicki Carney, Church Administrator

I have been the church secretary/administrator at Shoreline Covenant for over 25 years. I really love the staff I work with, even though we live in different worlds (they are all PC and I am Mac). I try to remain humble when they repeatedly experience “technical difficulties” but I must admit that a smug smile does escape once in awhile.

I met my husband, Jack, when we were in the 6th or 7th grade, got married in college (he was a Husky and I was a Coug), and have been married for 35+ years. We have been blessed with two daughters and a son; our daughters, Anna & Erika, are married and live in South Central Los Angeles where they are planting a church. Our son, David, is a college student. We also have four delightful grandchildren (Jordan, Mercy, Aaron, and Isaiah) who I don’t get to see nearly often enough and am more than happy to talk about and share photos if you’d like to stop by.

I enjoy live theatre, traveling, reading historical biographies & mysteries, crafting, watching football & basketball, holding babies, having houseguests from around the world, walking and cuddling with our “grand-dog” Laylah, and spending time anywhere near a river, lake, or ocean.
